Masjid Otsuka was completed in December 1999 at a total cost of Yen 68,927,695. The local donations came to Yen 38,454,323. Remaining amount came through foreign donations. Major part of the foreign donations came from Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz. On the other hand Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister , Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General has donated 1 million sterling pounds for purchasing a historical building in Manchester city to be transformed into the largest Islamic Center in the United Kingdom. Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz donated SR1 million to the Institute of Emergency Medicine in the Kingdom. He gave the donation while receiving Muqhem Abu Ruqaiba, chairman of the institute's board of directors, and the board members. Abu Ruqaiba briefed the crown prince on the institute's achievements. Prince Sultan urged the officials to exert more efforts to improve emergency medical services in the Kingdom. Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz met with the director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Koichiro Matsuura, in Paris. After the meeting, Crown Prince Sultan announced a donation of $1 million to UNESCO. Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud has given the Ashmolean Museum a substantial donation to provide a fitting home for the Museum's internationally renowned collection of Islamic art. The total value of the gift is £2 million, which also provided for ten scholarships at the University of Oxford for Saudi Arabian students. The new gallery, part of the ambitious redevelopment of one of the world's oldest museums, will be named the 'The Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Gallery'. The new double height gallery (which is also double the size of the existing gallery) will house treasures from the Islamic Collection that, owing to a lack of display space, have been previously hidden from public view. These treasures will include the largest collection anywhere of Muslim Gujerat printed cotton fragments, and the earliest examples known of Ikat robes from Central Asia. On the other hand Dr Ahmad Omar Hashim, Chairman of Al Azhar University has praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz, his entrusted Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard and Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General for its support to Islam and Muslims all over the world. Dr Hashim stressed the strong relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab Republic of Egypt pointing out the generous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to all scientific and medical areas in Egypt which reflects the strength of bilateral relations. This was announced at the meeting held at the house of the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Cairo also dean of the Arab Diplomatic corps in Egypt Ibrahim Al Saad Albrahim, on the occasion of signing contracts for the export of medical equipment donated by Prince Sultan Charitable foundation to the teaching medical hospital of Al Azhar university to the amount to 10 million Egyptian Pounds. Ambassador Albrahim said the meeting is a continuation of the weekly meetings held by the Embassy of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Cairo between elite Egyptian and Saudis to increase the consolidated old and historical relations that bind both people together. The Ambassador stressed that the donation of the Prince Sultan Charitable foundation to the teaching medical hospital of Al Azhar university which is a leading Islamic establishment in the Muslim world reflects these relations. During the meeting a documentary on the Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz charitable foundation was presented showing its achievements in different fields, then the contracts were signed between Al Azhjar university and companies providing the equipment. Then Dr Ahmad Omar Hashim the Chairman of Al Azhar University delivered a speech in which he said that this is a day in the Saudi-Egyptian relations in which we sign the contracts of the generous donations by Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Charitable Foundation for the development of Medical Teaching Hospital in Al Azhar university. He stressed that this donation is recognition for the role of the University. Dr Hashim expressed his thanks and gratitude to Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz and said relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt are historical. Dr Hashim lauded the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the service of Islam and Muslims all over the world as it is the cradle of Islam and the country of the Two Holy Mosques, adding that any campaigns against the Kingdom can not harm it, because the Kingdom will always live in security and prosperity until the end of the world. Dr Hashim announced that the Medical Teaching School of Al Azhar University will present its medical services to members of the Kingdom's embassy in Cairo because of the strong relations between the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz and his brother President Hosni Mubarak. It is worth mentioning that the medical equipment include four x-rays machines, two machine for the laboratory, a number of machines for the theatres and 10 machines for the intensive care units all to the amount of 10 million Egyptian Pounds. He pointed out to the generous support provided by Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz to Al Azhar medical school. He said the donation is in support of the Al Azhar university which occupies an international position and is one of the oldest universities in the world, adding that it is one of the generous acts of Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz all over the Muslim world and in Egypt which is historically linked to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Chairman of Al Azhar University stressed the respect accorded by the Egyptian people top the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the cradle of Islam and the protector of its holy sites. Dr Hashim addressed his thanks and gratitude to the Prince Sultan Charitable foundation and prayed God the Almighty to preserve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leaders and people. Meanwhile the major projects of the Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Foundation include: Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Humanitarian City is one of the projects of the Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud Foundation is the Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Humanitarian City. The City is a 400-bed Rehabilitation Hospital and Medical Center which opened 30th October 2002 to provide care to both inpatients and outpatients. Our patients are provided with the highest quality of medical care by highly experienced physicians, therapists, nurses, and support staff. The facility covers more than 1,000,000 square meters, and is located just north of Riyadh in the Banban area. The City provides therapeutic, supportive, and educational services which are designed to assist in restoring health and function following acute illness, and to allow for a safe return to a home-based family. Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Medical & Educational Telecommunication Program (MEDUNET). Established in 1418 H (1997), MeduNet is a leading and unique program that offers specialized services in Telecommunications and Information Technology for the health and educational sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its goal is to link the organizations in these sectors via state-of-the-art network that connects them with advanced international medical and educational centers. The Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Science & Technology Centre is one of the main projects of Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Foundation. It represents another generous donation by HRH Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud to the people of Saudi Arabia. HRH genuine interest in the welfare and educational and scientific development of Saudi Arabia, and especially its youth, has initiated the idea of building a state-of-the-art science and technology centre in the city of Khobar, located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. HRH also realized the crucial role that science centres do play in enhancing science education, as well as exciting youngsters about the fields of science and technology and ultimately encouraging them to make career choices in these important fields. The Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Science & Technology Centre aims at providing all the necessary facilities that will help its visitors in educating themselves about science and technology. It will use interactive and hands-on exhibits that will engage visitors and will make science learning a family, enjoyable experience. Its library and educational facilities will complement its exhibits by offering programs and resources that will educate the visitors about certain fields of science and technology in which they are interested. Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud Foundation for Charitable Housing Which aims to construct proper Housing for needy in different regions in Kingdom. It contains the following: Kahma Housing Project 100 Housing Units. Tabuk Housing Project 100 Housing Units. Hail Housing Project 100 Housing Units. Najran Housing Project 120 Housing Units. Holy Makkah Al-Mokarramah Housing Project 180 Housing Units. Each project contains full infrastructure and all supporting services, such as routes, water webs, electricity, and telecommunications. Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General was selected as the Personality of Humanitarian Development for 2005 in recognition of his contributions to various humanitarian issues at the local, regional and international arenas. His selection has been unanimous at the panels supervising Middle East Research Center for Humanitarian Development, Muslim World Council for Handicap and Rehabilitation, Medical and Rehabilitation Consultation House and World Establishment of Press. This selection has been blessed by a number of Arab and international personalities. On the other hand Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation, has allocated SR10 million to provide housing and basic necessities to three deaf and dumb families living in tents in the center of Malawi desert, some 300 km from Taif. The rest of the account will be deposited in individual accounts of the 24 family members to cover future needs. The Crown Prince was moved by the plight of the deaf families after Al-Riyadh Arabic daily reported about them. The family members will receive treatment at the most sophisticated specialist hospitals and the deaf and dumb children will be admitted to specialized public or private schools. Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz also ordered that all means of decent life be made available to them, including housing at the location of their choice, furniture, transportation and other amenities. Taif Governor Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz Ibn Moammar told Al-Riyadh Arabic daily that the three families will be moved without delay to their new homes in large cities and will preferably be located near specialist hospitals and schools in preparation for their integration into society. The three families comprising 24 men, women and children are leading a harsh life in the desert. The first family is headed by Jiddi Bin Mishaan Al-Otaibi, who is in his 50s, and his wife Muneer, who is in her thirties. They have nine children, aged between 2 and 12 years, the entire family is deaf. Their children are illiterate because they cannot afford the special education that is required and neither can they make the long-distance journeys out to the schools, that exist near civilization. Their previous attempts in trying to formally educate their kids have confirmed this, as Al-Otaibi related to the Saudi Gazette. Prince Sultan University is another institution dedicated to lifelong learning opportunities for a diverse population of adult learners in Saudi Arabia. The acquisition of practical knowledge and applicable skills will greatly enhance their opportunities for career advancement in their chosen fields. Prince Sultan University was established to provide graduate level education to individuals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who want to achieve career education goals. On the other hand Governor of Asir Province Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, who is also chair of the King Faisal International Prize, announced that the 2003 prize for Service to Islam has been awarded to the Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Charitable Foundation. Prince Khalid highlighted the Foundation's efforts in the service of Islam both inside and outside the Kingdom, and particularly in Africa and Europe. In 2002 Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz honoured the ceremony held on the occasion of the presentation of the award of the Sheikh Rashid Prize for the Humanitarian Personality of Year 2002 at the Jumaira Beach Hotel in Dubai. Crown Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General, was awarded the Sheikh Rashid Prize for the Humanitarian Personality of Year 2002 for all his charitable works and help provided either to those in need or in support of projects which help many people in our Arab and Muslim societies all over the world. Prince Sultan was nominated and voted for by the sons of the Arab and Muslim nation. Prince Sultan, who is well-known for his contributions to charities, was chosen on a voting system encompassing the Arab world and a documentary about Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz was presented. The Sheikh Rashid Humanitarian Personality of the Year Award was presented to Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General by Sheikh Ahmad Ibn Said Al Maktoum Chairman of the Emirates Airlines. Addressing the gathering, Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the event for selecting him as the winner of the prize. Prince Sultan said he was honoured to be endowed with the award, which carried the illustrious name of a great man, the late Sheikh Rashid Ibn Said Al Maktoum. He paid tribute to the prize's founder, the late Sheikh Rashid, who was a pioneer in promoting philanthropic deeds. Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz added that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a source of help, charity and assistance. Prince Sultan also donated 10 million Saudi riyals ($2.67 million) to the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre and said during the current situation and the difficulties facing humanity we are in strong need to cooperate in support of charitable work. Prince Sultan is Chairman of the Higher Council for Islamic Affairs (an organisation committed to the service of Muslim communities and Muslim minorities around the world.) He is the founder of the Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz Charitable Foundation, established in 1995 to provide social and health services for the disabled as well as social services and health care for the elderly and comprehensive rehabilitation programmes for the disabled. In addition, Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz is Chairman of the Higher Council for Islamic Affairs, a recently formed organisation dedicated to the service of Muslims and Muslim minorities throughout the world. The programmes provide humanitarian, educational, social and cultural services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and around the world. Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz has chaired, and currently chairs, various committees, including the Supreme Committee for Education Policy, Council of Manpower, Ministerial Committee on Environment, Board of the General Enterprise of Military Industries and the Higher Committee of the Offset Programme. He is also a major contributor to many charities and rehabilitation programmes for the handicapped around the world. Launched in 1997, the award has previously been given to four well-known personalities.
