Shoura Council discusses with EU means to boost cooperation

Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior received at the Royal Court the Speaker of Majlis Al-Shoura Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh who came to greet and congratulate him for the royal confidence bestowed upon him by being selected as the Crown Prince and appointed as the Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior.

At the outset of the audience, the Crown Prince welcomed the Speaker of Majlis Al-Shoura and the heads of its committees, and thanked them for congratulating him and for what they expressed of sincere feelings, wishing them and other members of Al-Shoura all success.

The audience was attended by Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, President of the Crown Prince's Court and the Special Advisor to the Crown Prince; other senior princes and officials.

Crown Prince Naif also received at the Royal Court Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Member States Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani; GCC Member States Ambassadors and continents' Deans of Ambassadors, who came to greet and congratulate him for the royal confidence bestowed on him by being selected as Crown Prince and appointed as Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior.

For his part, the Crown Prince thanked all of them for congratulating him and for their noble feelings towards him.

The audience was attended by Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, President of the Crown Prince's Court who is also the Special Advisor to the Crown Prince; other senior princes and officials.

In Riyadh, Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense, paid a visit to Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces Command.

Upon arrival at the venue, he was received by Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Defense; Chief of General Staff, General Hussein Al-Qabil; Commander of Air Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Hussein; and Director of the Office of the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Al-Bunyan.

In his speech, the Commander of Air Defense Forces congratulated Prince Salman on the royal trust in his appointment as Defense Minister, praising the Saudi Leadership for the establishment and development of Air Defense Forces, also commending Prince Salman for his directives on doing everything to develop and support Air Defense Forces.

Prince Salman, accompanied by Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Defense, also visited the Strategic Missile Force Command.

Upon arrival at the venue, they were received by Chief of General Staff, General Hussein bin Abdullah Al-Qabil; Director of Office of Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Al-Bunyan; and Commander of Strategic Missile Force, Major General Jarallah bin Mohammed Al-Alweet.

In his speech, the Commander of Strategic Missile Force commended the roles of Strategic Missile Force in securing and protecting the homeland and establishing a deterrent force to protect the Holy Sites and the achievements of the homeland, noting that Strategic Missile Force is capable to carry out its missions as required with the support of the Saudi Leadership and the directives of the Defense Minister and his Deputy.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-European Parliamentary Friendship Committee of Majlis Al-Shura has held a meeting in Riyadh with members of a visiting delegation of the Arabian Peninsula Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

The meeting dealt with discussion on topics of common interest between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the European Parliament and reviewed cooperative ties between the Kingdom and the European Union (EU) in various fields.

The meeting also focused on means of strengthening cooperation at the level of bilateral parliamentary relations between Majlis Al-Shura and the European Parliament.

On the other hand, Saudi Cultural Attaché Assistant for Administrative and Financial Affairs in Washington, DC, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Subayil said that the number of Saudi students on scholarships in the United States of America is nearly 47,000 and along with their 23,000 companions, indicating that the percentage of Saudi female students is approximately 30%.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) after delivering a lecture at the 7th Forum for Preparation of Nominee-Students for Scholarships, he noted that as many as 6,300 students on scholarships will study in U.S. universities within the framework the 7th stage of foreign scholarships.

Dr. Al-Subayil said that the number of Saudi students on scholarships in United States of America was nearly 2,500 in the year 2005.
