Cabinet approves signing cooperation agreement with France to develop peaceful use of nuclear energy

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal patronizes ceremony to inaugurate informal settlements

Prince Khalid bin Sultan: Border villages are back to normal, forces keep vigilant eyes in defense of nation

The Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the Cabinet session held at Al-Salam Palace.

At the outset of the session, the Cabinet was briefed on a number of reports on the developments at Arab, Islamic and international arenas.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, the Minister of Social Affairs and Acting Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said the Cabinet highly valued the talks the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and US President Barack Obama held in the White House, during which they stressed the depth of bilateral relations as well as their keenness on enhancing them further in various fields, and discussed crucial issues of concern to Arab and Islamic worlds.

The Cabinet thanked President Obama for appreciating the role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques as well as its continuous efforts towards the peace process in the Middle East and towards various issues that promote security and stability.

Dr. Al-Othaimeen also said the Cabinet commended the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Saudi Students on scholarships in Canada and the United States of America when he met with them.

The Cabinet also commended the Royal Order to establish an academic chair named after the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for studies and research in the field of dialogue among civilizations at the University of Toronto, Canada.

This order reflects the King's keenness on promoting dialogue among religions and cultures, enriching the scientific activity in the field of intercultural dialogue and the spreading of tolerance and values of moderation.

The Acting Minister of Culture and Information said the Cabinet reviewed a number of issues on its agenda and issued the following decisions:

The Cabinet authorized the Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the Austrian side a draft memorandum of understanding in security fields between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the Federal Republic of Austria.

The Cabinet authorized the Foreign Minister (or his deputy) to sign a protocol to open diplomatic missions between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Peru at the level of a representative (Non-Resident Ambassador).

The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Finance (or his deputy) to sign a draft protocol attached to the agreement concluded between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the French Republic on the avoidance of double taxation on income, inheritance and capital between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the Republic of France.

The Cabinet authorized the President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (or his deputy) to sign a draft cooperation agreement between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the Republic of France on the development of peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The Cabinet authorized the Director General of the Institute of Public Administration (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the French side a draft memorandum of cooperation between the Institute of Public Administration of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the National School of Administration of France.

The Cabinet approved a number of appointments as follows:

1- Abdullah bin Muflih bin Abdullah Al Hamid is appointed to the position of a Legal Advisor (Rank 15) at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance.

2- Salah bin Salem bin Suleiman Tafran is appointed to the position of a Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Ibn Abdulaziz, the Governor of Makkah Province chaired a meeting for development of informal settlements in the south of the university enclave.

The meeting discussed a study prepared by Jeddah Holding Company for development of an area of 5.4 million square meters.

At the end of the meeting, Jeddah Mayor Eng. Adel Faqih said that by the end of the year, there will be a start of execution of 30,000 housing units as replacement for population of informal settlements.

Also Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, on behalf of the Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Sultan, patronized in Jeddah on Sunday a graduation ceremony of the 8th batch comprising 217 female graduates from Dar al-Hikma College for Girls in Jeddah.

The female graduates have specialized in interior and graphic design, special education, management of information systems, nursing, banking, finance, linguistics and speech and hearing sciences.

The ceremony was attended by Prince Meshal Ibn Majed Ibn Abdulaziz, the Governor of Jeddah.

The College's Dean Dr. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi said that the total number of female students at the College has reached 1,112 and 779 students have been graduated since its establishment.

Prince Khalid received on Wednesday Kuwaiti Minister of Higher Education Dr. Modi Al-Hamoud, Lebanese Finance Minister Raya Hafar and Dean of Dar-al-Hikma college Dr. Suheir al-Qurashi, the female student who was awarded the prize of Dar al-Hikma and a number of persons participating in the graduation ceremony of Dar al-Hikma.

On the other hand, Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General for Military Affairs, conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Commander-in-chief for all armed forces, and those of Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the personnel of the armed forces in Jazan during an inspection visit to Imam Saud Al-Kabeer 11th Brigade in Jazan Region.

At the venue, he was received by Major General Hussein Ma'alawi, Commander of Jazan Force, Brigadier General Oan Al-Shamarani, Commander of the 11th Brigade, and senior officers.

In a statement to reporters following the visit, Prince Khalid bin Sultan confirmed that the situation returned to normality at the Saudi southern border and that no activity of infiltrators monitored.

He confirmed that the situation at the border villages was also normal.

He announced that the Saudi air forces would take part in the Red Flag exercise to be held in the U.S. after three weeks. 'I would attend that event', he added.

Later this evening, Prince Khalid bin Sultan paid an inspection visit to the 41st battalion.

He conveyed to its personnel the greetings of the Saudi leadership.
