Crown Prince Sultan briefs cabinet on regional developments

Cabinet authorizes finance minister to sign papers to modify deal to set up joint committee with Syria

Prince Sultan receives Yemeni president

Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, chaired the Cabinet session held at Al-Yamamah Palace this week.

At the outset of the session, the Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on the talks, meetings and consultations held by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, including his meetings with President Idriss Deby of Chad, former Prime Minister of Iraq Dr. Ayad Allawi, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Commander of US Central Command General David Petraeus.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, the Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja said the Crown Prince also briefed the Cabinet on the contacts and consultations he held. Then, the Cabinet listened to reports on the developments in the region, included the peace process in the Middle East as well as the situation in Iraq and Palestine. The Cabinet reiterated the firm stance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding these issues.

Dr. Khoja also said the Cabinet reviewed a number of issues at the national level, including the scientific, cultural and sports activities and seminars. The Cabinet praised the workshop on the Global Legal Framework against Terrorism which was approved by Prince Naأ¯f bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior, and was organized by Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the Middle East and North Africa.

Dr. Khoja said that the Cabinet reviewed a number of issues on its agenda and issued the following decisions: The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Finance to sign a minutes with the Syrian side, including the amendment of Article (II) of the agreement on the establishment of a joint committee between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Syrian Arab Republic issued under Royal Decree No. (M/12) dated 19/08/1411H. and amended by Royal Decree No. (M/23) dated 03/05/1430H. to read as follows: 'The Joint Committee is chaired by the ministers of finance of both countries. The concerned ministers of cooperation issues under discussion by the Committee may attend the meetings of the Committee'.

The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the Moroccan side a draft memorandum of understanding for the integration and exchange of information in the field of urban planning between the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Housing and Town Planning of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Cabinet authorized the President of King Saud University (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the Indian side a draft memorandum of understanding between King Saud University of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) of the Republic of India.

The Cabinet approved the regulation of beekeeping.

The Cabinet authorized the Minister of Culture and Information (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the Indian side a draft agreement for cooperation in the field of news between the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and Press Trust of India (PTI).

The Cabinet authorized the Chief Executive of the General Authority for Food and Medicine (or his deputy) to discuss and sign with the Indian side a draft memorandum of technical cooperation between the General Authority for Food and Medicine of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of India.

The Cabinet approved a number of appointments as follows: 1- Dr. Raed bin Khalid bin Ahmed Qurmli a as Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2- Mohammed bin Abdullah Abu Al-Kheir Barri as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3- Eidha bin Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Zahrani as Assistant Undersecretary for External Information at the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Meanwhile, President Ali Abdullah Saleh of the Republic of Yemen paid this evening a visit to Crown Prince Sultan at his ranch in Al-Boyabat.

During the visit, the Yemeni President expressed congratulations to the Crown Prince for his safe return home to the Kingdom, wishing more progress and development for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

In turn, Crown Prince Sultan expressed thanks to and appreciation of the Yemeni president's visit and his sincere feeling, highlighting the strong relations between the two countries and peoples.

The visit was attended by Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Advisor to the King; Prince Naif bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz and a number of officials.

Meanwhile, Crown Prince Sultan patronized this evening the finals of Crown Prince's soccer cup between Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal at King Fahd International Stadium.

Upon arrival at the venue, the Crown Prince was received by Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh; Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz, General President of Youth Welfare, who is also President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and its members.

The Crown Prince Sultan was also warmly received and greeted by sports fans at the Stadium.

Then Crown Prince Sultan handed over the second place medals and financial prize to the Chairman of Al-Ahli, before giving away the tournament's trophy and financial prize to the Chairman of Al-Hilal.

In Riyadh, Crown Prince Sultan has donated SR 1 million for Saudi Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Deputy Chairman of the Society's Board of Directors and Consultant of Chest Diseases and Intensive Care lieutenant Colonel Dr. Yasser bin Hussein Mandourah expressed his appreciation of and thanks to the Crown Prince for his support for the activities of the Society.

He praised the unlimited support provided by the Crown Prince for the Society, and his support for the Conference of Critical Care, the first and the biggest one in the Kingdom, to be held under the auspices of the Crown Prince on April 25-29.
