The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has approved the establishment of King Abdullah Center for Tumors and Liver diseases at the Riyadh-based King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) at an estimated cost of SR 430 Million.
The approval for the Center endorsed by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz was announced in a statement to The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) by the Executive Supervisor General of KFSHRC Dr Kassem Al-Kasabi.
He noted that the establishment of the 300-bed Center comes in line with an integrated strategy for the treatment of tumor cases and liver diseases. .
Dr Al-Kasabi said a Tumors' center currently operational at the hospital receives nearly 3000 cancer cases, both children and adults, on an annual basis.
Since 1975, he disclosed that as many as 60,000 cases of cancer were treated. "About 8000 cases of cancer were reported annually in the Kingdom during the past years."
"However, the number of cancer cases is expected to increase to 14,000 annually by 2020," Dr al-Kasabi said.
Meanwhile, Dr al-Kasabi said the carriers of the 'virus-B' of infectious hepatitis in Saudi Arabia constitute about 14 percent of the population in some regions of the Kingdom and the rate of infection for 'hepatitis-C' ranges between 1 to 5 percent of the total population.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz received here today Malaysian Ambassador to the kingdom Ismael bin Ibrahim who bade farewell to the king on the occasion of the end of his term as ambassador of his country to the kingdom.
The king also received Brazilian Ambassador to the kingdom Isnard Penha Brazil Jr. who bade farewell to the king on the occasion of the end of his term as ambassador of his country to the kingdom.
During the two audiences, the two ambassadors conveyed greetings of their countries' leaders to the king who sent his greetings to the leaders.
The Global Council for Cooperation among Civilizations and Cultures has awarded Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, the highest Humanitarian Services Medal for the year 2007 in recognition of his great efforts in spreading Culture of Charity works, combating poverty and his contribution in promoting humanitarian works and services.
The Crown Prince was awarded the medal by the Sweden-based Council in his capacity as Chairman of the board of trustees of Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Charity Foundation and after a comprehensive evaluation for the profiles of the pioneering Charitable works nominees around the World in which two persons are selected among 36 International dignitaries for this Medal.
The Charity, relief, health, educational, cultural, environmental, social, and humanitarian services are attaining great care of the Crown Prince at National, Regional and International arenas regardless of race , color or religion, said the Selection Committee of the Medal.
The Crown Prince is also mobilizing all his potentialities even his own residence to serve these noble humanitarian objectives, the Committee pointed out.

Prince Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Minister of Defense and Aviation will patronize tomorrow the graduation ceremony of the 73rd batch of King Faisal Air Academy in Riyadh.
